Vanu, Inc. Named One of the 10 Coolest Companies By Telecommunications Magazine

Vanu, Inc. today announced that it has been named one of the ten coolest companies by Telecommunications Magazine. Companies who are selected for this honor have demonstrated business strategy savvy, technical expertise and future vision. Inclusion in this award speaks to the success of identifying and meeting the business needs of service provider customers.
Vanu, the first company to introduce an FCC-certified software radio product, launched the Anywave(TM) Base Station in March 2005 at CTIA. The Anywave Base Station is the first base station system that fully implements the base transceiver (BTS) and base station controller (BSC) entirely in software, running on a general purpose server and RF front end. With software based signal processing and a standards-based architecture, the Anywave Base Station is capable of supporting multiple standards on industry standard computing hardware and enables wireless carriers to achieve OPEX savings in areas such as site rental and utilities, backhaul and maintenance.
The Anywave Base Station's small footprint and ability to remotely locate the server contribute to site rental savings; the use of industry standard equipment plus wideband software radio technology reduces cooling and electricity costs. Use of IP on backhaul leverages the same bandwidth for voice and data calls and enables transparent use of alternate backhaul systems. Maintenance costs can be significantly reduced due to the fact that many functions that previously required sending a technician to a tower are now remote software upgrades.
The product is deployed in Mid Tex Cellular's network in rural Texas and Mid Tex is transitioning their local TDMA subscriber base to their GSM network and carrying roaming traffic with Cingular.
"Vanu has met with success in a short period of time by understanding the business needs of service providers and by driving technology innovation to meet them," said Bob Wallace, Editor-in-Chief for Telecommunications magazine. "That's far more than simply cool; it's fully understanding - and acting on - the true business of technology."
"We first met and briefed Bob Wallace on software radio and our Anywave Base Station at CTIA and he quickly understood the significant impact that we will have on the wireless carrier marketplace by offering a multi-standard solution running on commodity hardware that reduces OPEX for carriers," said John Winn, VP of Sales and Marketing for Vanu. "It is an honor to be included in this prestigious nomination."
Vanu offers the Anywave Base Station as a turnkey system fully implemented, tested and optimized for each deployment by the company's expert service professionals. Vanu also licenses software radio technologies and waveforms (air interfaces), and provides design consulting services to wireless device manufacturers, systems integrators and service providers.
