FiberZone Unveils Automated Fiber Management

Posted on: Monday, 6 June 2005, 12:00 CDT

FiberZone Networks Ltd., a provider of connectivity systems for the efficient management of the physical fiber optic infrastructure, emerged from stealth mode today at Supercomm 2005, announcing its Automated Fiber Management (AFM) product suite. The AFM family of remotely managed and fully automated connectivity solutions offers breakthrough return on investment, compared to legacy manual optical distribution frames (ODFs) and patch panels. Based on FiberZone's patented Fiber Topology Switch (FTS), AFM delivers superb optical performance and complete traffic protection in carrier-class platforms that provide network operators with unparalleled flexibility and reliability, while meeting their exacting price requirements.

The first product in the family, the AFM-400, enables fully non-blocking switching of 400 ports with uniform insertion loss of less than 0.4 dB. FiberZone's proprietary latching mechanism, known as Dynamic Optical Coupling (DOC), consumes power only while switching, maintains traffic transmission in the event of power failure, and enables the system to be repaired in the field with no traffic interruption. The AFM hardware is matched by sophisticated network management software offering a complete view of the network, a real-time synchronized database, and connection auto-discovery. Configurations are immediately reflected in management systems and recovered automatically in case of failure.

"Carriers today are under great pressure to reduce the total cost of ownership of their networks," said Gil Eyal, President and CEO of FiberZone. "AFM's 'Install Once, Reconfigure Many' capability offers very rapid return on investment by enabling operators to remotely provision, manage, and troubleshoot networks end-to-end, without any on-site servicing. Our innovative solutions also enable carriers to generate new revenue streams through on-demand services."

AFM is deployed instead of manual ODFs wherever flexibility and reliability are required in the network, from the access to the core. AFM improves the provisioning of fiber-to-the-X (FTTx) services, enables rapid repair of metro mesh networks, dramatically simplifies the management of central offices, allows municipal-owned network operators to manage multiple service providers, and greatly eases the creation of long-haul routes across thousands of miles.

FiberZone will be exhibiting at booth #11052 at Supercomm 2005, June 7-9, 2005 in Chicago, IL.

About FiberZone

FiberZone Networks provides connectivity systems for the efficient and fully automated management of the physical fiber optic infrastructure. FiberZone's Automated Fiber Management (AFM) products offer rapid return on investment by enabling telecom carriers to provision and troubleshoot networks end-to-end without having to perform on-site servicing. FiberZone's platforms guarantee improved levels of service and fewer network faults, thereby lowering total cost of ownership of the fiber infrastructure.
