AT&T Announces $30,000 Donation to Continue Funding for University of Central Florida Advanced Communications and Training Simulation Technology Research
VIENNA, Va. and ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — AT&T Inc. today announced that AT&T Government Solutions, a business unit of the company, is donating $30,000 to the University of Central Florida (UCF) to help fund continued graduate work in advanced communications and live simulation technology fields. This is the fifth year in a row that AT&T has made a donation to UCF.
During the past five years, AT&T and the U.S. Army have worked together to ensure that Army troops have access to more realistic simulated battlefield conditions, which help prepare troops for actual combat scenarios. AT&T has used its expertise in mobility and global positioning to help the U.S. Army continue to modernize and enhance its battlefield simulation training and testing.
“AT&T’s continued, long-standing support for the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Simulation and Technology has helped provide our brave men and women in uniform with better battlefield training,” said Congressman Tom Feeney, a strong supporter of UCF and its programs. “It is an honor once again to see how the advanced technology derived from this unique public- private partnership can help ensure that our military members receive the training they deserve before being deployed.”
The research work will take place at the UCF campus, under the guidance of UCF’s Institute for Simulation and Training, which is collocated in one of UCF’s Partnership facility buildings that also house the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command’s Simulation and Training and Technology Center. The UCF research work benefits from the synergy of its collocation with one of the eventual users of its technology. More than 140 Ph.D. and master’s graduates from UCF have made significant contributions to the modeling and simulation research.

The event will take place at the UCF Institute for Simulation and Training, Partnership II Building, 3rd floor, 3100 Technology Parkway, Orlando, Fla., from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. The agenda will include refreshments, brief remarks by representatives from AT&T, the Simulation and Training and Technology Center, UCF and Congressman Feeney, followed by a check presentation.
