EMC Provides Backup for Lenovo Notebooks

EMC and Lenovo have announced a global partnership to provide an unlimited online data backup service for SMBs and said it has opened its first international data center in Dublin, Ireland to serve users of its Mozy backup service worldwide.

The service is available on all Lenovo ThinkPad SL series notebooks. Key features of the Lenovo Online Data Backup Service Powered by EMC Mozy include open and locked file support, bandwidth throttling, and privately managed encryption option using Advanced Encryption Standard.

The company acquired on-demand backup specialist Berkeley Data Systems, the developer of the Mozy hosted storage/backup service, for $76m last year, and released its MozyEnterprise powered by EMC Fortress earlier this year.

Vance Checketts, COO of the Mozy business unit at EMC, said: “Protecting information on personal computers is especially critical for SMBs that can’t tolerate data loss or employee downtime. The Lenovo partnership accelerates our plans to expand the Mozy service worldwide, and we look forward to offering international customer support and localized language versions.”
