AMCC Remains No. 1 Worldwide Vendor of Merchant Switch Fabrics, Reports Market Research Firm The Linley Group

Posted on: Wednesday, 8 June 2005, 09:00 CDT

AMCC's Marketshare More than Triple that of Nearest Competitor

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) (NASDAQ: AMCC) today announced that market research firm The Linley Group again ranked AMCC No. 1 worldwide in the sale of merchant switch fabrics (MSF) for 2004, with a total 58% marketshare. AMCC continues to gain marketshare year over year, resulting in a 10% growth over last year and a commanding 41% lead over the next ranked Switch Fabric vendor.

"With the acquisition of IBM's PRS product line, AMCC enhanced its fabric portfolio and added leading OEMs and incremental revenue," said Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at The Linley Group. "AMCC's long-term roadmap based on the PRS and nPX8005 Cyclone architectures positions the company for continued leadership. With its broad portfolio of networking chips, AMCC is one of the few vendors delivering complete end-to-end products, including framers and PHYs, NPUs, and switch fabrics that scale to terabit throughput."

"As the Switch Fabric market continues to grow, Tier One customers are responding to our low latency, high quality of service capability, which enables voice, video and data services using our industry-leading switch fabric solutions," said Mark Hunsicker, vice president of marketing for AMCC's Communications Group. "AMCC's proven expertise combined with the inherent multi-terabit scalability afforded by the PRS architecture allows us to not only protect customer investments but accelerate time to market for OEMs today and into the future."

AMCC's switch fabric roadmap covers 5Gbps to multi-terabits, and consists of its market-leading PRS switch fabric family, in its sixth generation of devices, and its nPX8005 Cyclone terabit switch fabric. On-time delivery, quality, outstanding support, and triple S - 'Silicon, Software and Support' - are the foundations of AMCC's success. The company's switch fabric portfolio is integrated into a broad customer base, addressing applications such as director-class storage systems for high potential start-ups as well as established Tier-One wide area networking system vendors such as Nortel, Alcatel, Huawei and Tellabs.
