CHICAGO, June 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SUPERCOMM -- Motorola, Inc. , along with Cable Constructors, Inc. (CCI) are deploying Motorola's end-to-end portfolio of advanced entertainment and optical access solutions for the "All American City" of Philippi, W. Va. The system is expected to be operational this summer.
The Motorola end-to-end solution selected by Philippi delivers a full range of broadband services including fiber optic based high-speed Internet access, high-quality broadcast and the capability for future on-demand digital video services to residents and outlying areas of Philippi. Philippi's Fiber- to-the-Premises (FTTP) deployment utilizing Motorola's optical access solution will also provide broadband access for county agencies such as law enforcement and 911 emergency access on the same local-area-network, and will provide citizens with digital access to televised council meetings and other town events.
This deployment is another Motorola win in the end-to-end FTTP municipality market, and continues the company's momentum in FTTP deployments closely following a recently announced five-year contract win with Verizon for FTTP equipment.
Under the city's contract with CCI, Motorola will provide Philippi with video headend equipment and consumer set-tops and as well as high-density optical access solutions that enable FTTP service delivery. Motorola and CCI will design, construct, manage and integrate all aspects of the project.
The equipment includes high-density, multi-protocol Optical Line Terminals (Motorola AXS2200 OLT); intelligent Optical Network Terminals (Motorola residential and business ONTs) used at the premises; and video-optimized Optical Amplifiers (Motorola EDFAs). Cable Constructor's, Inc. will manage the construction aspects of replacing existing coaxial cable and traditional copper wiring throughout the entire system with fiber optic cable and wiring.
"Motorola's end-to-end offering of pre-integrated and standards compliant triple play solutions will enable the City of Philippi to quickly deploy next generation advanced services into its municipal network," said Karen Weaver, Philippi city manager. "This infrastructure will provide the flexibility necessary for our community to further connect its local government agencies, businesses, schools and neighbors to improve information access, collaboration and learning for all involved."
The city of Philippi anticipates its all fiber high-throughput network to be operational this summer. Broadband Internet and digital videos applications will be available initially with voice service to be provided in the future.
"Motorola's FTTH solution is an ideal option for municipalities like Philippi that want to bridge the broadband and advanced entertainment services divide for their citizens," said Tony Zona, general manager of FTTP for Motorola Wireline Networks. "We expect this market for public systems to significantly expand. With our end-to-end solution, Motorola provides a reliable means of delivering quality voice, data and video services that can meet the needs of many cities, public utilities and remote populations."
