rPath Supports Virtual Appliances for Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V
rPath today announced application providers can use rBuilder(R) and the rPath Appliance Platform(TM) to build, deploy and maintain virtual appliances that run on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. rPath is a silver sponsor of Microsoft’s U.S. launch event in Bellevue, Wash.
Leading analyst firm Gartner predicts virtualization will be the highest-impact trend changing IT infrastructure and operations through 2012. A virtual appliance is an application combined with just enough operating system (JeOS) for it to run optimally in any virtualized environment. In addition to the Windows platform, rPath supports all the major virtualization platforms including VMware, Citrix Systems, Parallels and Virtual Iron.
rBuilder is the first and only development platform that simplifies and automates the creation of virtual appliances. Application providers can now use rBuilder to build Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) images for Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. The rPath Appliance Platform technology offers complete appliance lifecycle management capabilities, from creation through deployment, configuration, management, and update.
In January of 2007, rBuilder became the first and only means for turning Linux applications into VHD images to run on Microsoft Virtual Server 2005. Earlier this year, rPath entered a technology partnership with Novell that enables application providers to use Novell’s SUSE(R) Linux Enterprise Server when building virtual appliances on rBuilder.

At today’s Microsoft’s U.S. launch event, appliances for Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V are being demonstrated at the rPath booth by customers Webalo and Techout.
