Jobs Announces New iPods, Addresses Health Concerns

Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs unveiled a new line of iPods before a crowd gathered at a theater in San Francisco on Tuesday.
Since the release of the iPhone, Apple has faced the hefty task of differentiating the iPod from the iPhone.
Among more notable announcements on Tuesday, Jobs showed off the newest model of iPod Nano, which have been cosmetically transformed into oval-shaped devices that Jobs said are the thinnest iPods Apple has ever made.
The iPod Nano be priced at $149 for the 8 gigabyte model and $199 for a 16-gigabyte version.
Jobs also announced the arrival of the second generation iPod Touch, which combines the music playing features of a traditional iPod with Wi-Fi capabilities.
An 8-gigabyte version of the new model will sell for $229; a 16-gigabyte version will be $299 and a 32 GB model will be $399.
The product announcements were largely expected by investors. Apple stock slid $3.50, or about 2.3 percent, to $154.20 in afternoon Nasdaq trading.
During the product presentation, Jobs also jokingly addressed recent concerns about his health by appearing before a screen that said “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” The announcement was spurred by public concerns about his health in June when he appeared thinner than usual during the introduction of the iPhone 3G.
In 2004, Jobs said he had undergone successful surgery to remove a rare type of pancreatic cancer.
Apple also announced a new deal with NBC that will bring the episodes of the network’s shows back to iTunes after NBC pulled out in a dispute over the prices Apple charges for shows it sells on the online service.
