Hauppauge-based Globecomm Systems said Monday it launched Cachendo, an information technology service company that it said would offer complex information technology services.

Cachendo will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the satellite communications company and will offer advisory services, consulting services and information engineering

“We feel that by investing in and building a solid platform for professional services, we will enable Globecomm to diversify its portfolio of solution offerings and enhance our ability to satisfy customer demands in this space,” Bob DeLuca, president of Chachendo, said in a statement.

Globecomm’s last announcement came on Aug. 12, when it received a $9 million infrastructure contract from General Communication Inc., an Alaska-based company that provides voice, video and data communication services to residential, commercial and government customers.

Shares of Globecomm (Nasdaq: GCOM) fell 1.37 percent midday Monday to trade at $10.06.
