North State Communications Plans Major Upgrade to Internet Service

Jun. 8--North State Communications announced Tuesday the company will spend $30 million during three years to upgrade its Internet service to residential and business customers.
The network expansion will begin immediately in neighborhoods throughout its service territory in the greater High Point area, said Royster Tucker III, executive vice president of North State Communications.
The upgrade will increase the speed of North State's Internet products, he said.
North State will phase in the upgrade over three years, Tucker said.
The company has a 600-square-mile service area in and around High Point, where North State is based. The first customers who will receive the new service, including faster Internet download speeds and higher bandwidth capabilities, are in densely concentrated residential and business areas, Tucker said.
"Internet users who enjoy streaming video, movies, working with pictures and who download large files will have the bandwidth to make these applications run fast and smooth," he said.
The expansion also is designed to let North State meet future bandwidth demands of residential and business customers, he said.
The upgrade represents one of the single-largest investments in the history of North State, which has its roots in a telephone company founded in 1895.
North State is one of the nation's 25 largest communications services companies.
