Sawston Village College Adopts Ericom’s Application Access Solution

September 11, 2008

Ericom Software, a provider of virtualization solutions, has announced that UK-based Sawston Village College has selected its PowerTerm WebConnect, the Alternative to Citrix, to deliver a secure remote access solution to its staff and students.

As a specialist college, the school aims to enable every student to fulfill its learning potential with education that helps them develop skills, knowledge and personal qualities. This is all underpinned by the use of technologies that allow learning and teaching to occur within the broadest range of opportunities available to students, parents/careers and the community.

Alongside the current major rebuilding program, the school is working with Ericom’s partner, Ramesys, upgrading its ICT infrastructure to assist in delivering 21st century learning. The aim is to provide a new platform for introducing a number of initiatives over the course of the next three years, such as secure remote access to work-based applications for staff and students alike. This latest move by the school will include the Ericom solution as an integral component of the IT modernization program, which involves the school moving to a thin client based infrastructure utilizing Wyse thin clients, Dell servers and a mix of Dell laptops and their existing PC’s being used as thin clients.

Ian Platt, managing director for UK region at Ericom, said: “Once again, our PowerTerm WebConnect solution has proved itself to be the number one choice for schools and colleges seeking to provide teachers and students secure application access from both within and outside of the classroom. Ericom continues to expand the number of schools adopting PowerTerm WebConnect because we offer the lowest cost and most comprehensive solution compared to the alternatives.”
