An Illinois nonprofit will deliver 32,000 pounds of food and supplies to the Alario Center to help residents of the New Orleans area, Baton Rouge and Terrebonne Parish affected by Hurricane Gustav.

The nonprofit Schools Count Corp. will deliver an 18-wheeler containing the supplies to the Alario Center in Westwego at 6 p.m. today.

The Schools Count Corp. has been raising money for recovery since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and promises to continue to help the region as long as there is a need.

Soldiers of Love Executive Director Narah Cano connected the organization with the Jefferson Parish Emergency Command Center and the delivery was scheduled from there.

Launched in 2006, Soldiers of Love strives to improve public primary and secondary education, mental health, life skills and entrepreneurship, through volunteerism and financial assistance initially in the New Orleans area and eventually globally.
