JUNIPER Networks Inc has introduced a new router from its E- series, a high-end router series for the service provider, that it claims is the answer to provide uninterrupted converged voice, data and multimedia or triple play services on broadband to homes.

The E320 Broadband Services Router enables service providers to evolve beyond simple Internet access to high bandwidth and quality Infranet services.

According to Juniper’s chief technology officer for Asia-Pacific Andrew Coward, this is a breakthrough technology that can speed up triple play adoption to end users where it is currently impossible to do with small bandwidth being channelled to customer premises.

“Triple play services require a next-generation platform that can service subscribers in large quantities with assured levels of quality, security and high-availability,” he said.

The E320 is designed to provide a fast path for Internet protocol (IP) traffic by removing the route processor from the forwarding path and maintain an entire routing table on each port. It utilises application- specific integrated circuits to speed IP packet processing.

Scaling from 100 to 320 gigabits per second of capacity, the router supports up to 128,000 individual subscribers. With such capability, the company said it can reduce the price per subscriber, an important metric used by service providers to track capital expenditures.

The E320 leverages Juniper’s JUNOSe operating system, which claims to be a good combination to offer providers a competitive advantage with service differentiation through enhanced quality of service capabilities.

Apart from the broadband router, new ERX routing platforms were also launched, which includes the high-density Ethernet line module with eight- port of Gigabit Ethernet per slot and an Asynchronous Transfer Mode plus Ethernet line module that provides a combination of Ethernet and ATM technology in a single slot.
