AT&T Delivers the Nation’s Fastest 3G Network in York County
YORK, Pa., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Watch video on the go. Surf the wireless Internet at lightening speed. Share live video during a cell phone call. AT&T announced today these services and more are available on the ultra fast third-generation (3G) mobile broadband network in York county. AT&T operates the nation’s fastest 3G network, according to recent data compiled by leading independent wireless research firms.
With the addition of 3G technology to 30 cell sites in York County, AT&T’s ultra fast wireless network is now available in the City of York, as well as in the communities of Newberry, Spring Garden, Dover, and Loganville. The 3G network has also been enhanced along Interstate 83, Routes 30 and 74, and complements the mobile broadband network already available in Harrisburg, Reading, Lancaster, Allentown and Philadelphia.
“In York County, we recognize that high-speed connectivity is vital to our economic competitiveness. That’s why we are working hard to make sure our communities and our residents have access to advanced broadband networks,” said York County Commissioner Christopher Reilly. “AT&T’s 3G, mobile broadband expansion in York County is welcome news and is aligned with our efforts. I thank AT&T for its commitment to York County and central Pennsylvania.”
Dan Lafond, vice president and general manager for AT&T’s wireless division in Pennsylvania added, “York is a vital area with tech-savvy business leaders, visitors and residents who want fast and dependable wireless connections to live video, web browsing, and e-mail. The expansion of our 3G network gives business and consumers faster access to the Internet and corporate e-mail in more places and quicker downloads for music, games or videos on-the-go.”
Benefits of the AT&T 3G Network
Because its wireless network is based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technologies, the most open and widely used wireless network platform in the world, which supports 88 percent of the people worldwide who use wireless devices, only AT&T can offer 3G data roaming in more than 60 countries, including Japan and South Korea, as well as voice calling in more than 200 countries, in addition to the company’s constant 3G expansion in the U.S. Nearly all devices in AT&T’s current portfolio are “world phones” that can be used around the world.
Many of AT&T’s 3G devices support AT&T Video Share(SM), a first-of-its-kind service in the U.S. that enables users to share live video while carrying on a voice call — providing a new way to share personal moments and key events beyond the capabilities of voice, text and photos.
AT&T’s 3G customers can also view razor-sharp video clips through CV, an on-demand streaming video service that offers a comprehensive library of mobile video content from CNN, FOX News, ABC Mobile, CBS Mobile, NBC, ESPN, The Weather Channel, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, “American Idol,” HBO Mobile and more.
The AT&T 3G network is now available in 320 U.S. major metropolitan areas. The company will deliver 3G service to nearly 350 leading U.S. metro areas by the end of 2008.
