Siebel Systems Awarded Patent

July 29, 2003

SAN MATEO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–July 29, 2003–Siebel Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SEBL), a leading provider of multichannel eBusiness applications software, today announced that the United States Patent Office has issued U.S. Patent No. 6,553,563 to the company for its unique suite of graphical software customization tools. These tools are a key part of Siebel Tools, an integrated environment for configuring all aspects of Siebel eBusiness Applications.

The enhanced suite of Siebel Tools enables software developers to quickly configure an underlying Siebel application by customizing its look, feel, behavior, and workflow to a company’s exact requirements, without altering the application source code, base objects, or SQL. The ease and comprehensiveness of the customization process, and the scalability and upgradability of the customized applications, significantly reduce the total life cycle cost of customizing enterprise applications.

“With Siebel Tools, we have been able to tailor Siebel eBusiness Applications to our unique way of doing business without a lot of costly development,” said Brent Harris, Siebel Project Manager, Wiltel Communications. “And we know that when it is time to upgrade, we’ll be able to easily move up to the new Siebel version. That cuts costs even more.”

Among other features, the patented suite includes five major tools:

— Reusable (base) modules allow end user-derived attributes to

be incorporated with the existing modules. The system

automatically notifies the developer of any conflicts between

new end user-derived modules and existing modules.

— Object editor provides an intuitive environment that allows

developers to modify software modules quickly and easily.

— Object visualizer presents a graphical representation of the

relationships among the various object definitions in the

application’s object repository, simplifying the configuration

process.

— Applet designer provides an intuitive drag-and-drop visual

programming interface for modifying and extending user

interface objects such as lists, forms, dialogs, and charts.

The applet designer provides a development environment that is

already familiar to users of other popular development tools

for rapid implementation of user interface changes.

— View designer allows developers to modify existing views and

construct new views by simply dragging and dropping desired

applets onto a view canvas. No additional code is required to

define the relationships between the applets.

“This recent patent award reflects the company’s unyielding commitment to maximize the quality, reliability, ease of use, and cost of ownership of our product offerings,” says Ed Abbo, Senior Vice President of Technology and Chief Technology Officer.
