U.S. Education IT Market Expected to Reach $56.2 Billion By 2012 and Collaboration Is Key, Says Compass Intelligence
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ — According to new research from CompassIntelligence.com, businesses in the U.S. will spend roughly $56.2 billion on information technology products and services by 2012. This year K-12 and Higher Education institutions are expected to spend an estimated $47.7 billion on IT. This includes areas such as applications, professional services, telecommunications, computer equipment, network hardware, and IT staffing. This market is expected to see smaller annual growth rates in the most recent years, but is expected to see 5.6 percent annual growth from 2011 to 2012. Today schools are utilizing collaboration technologies and applications for distance learning, multi-campus lectures, laboratory and experiment collaboration, and international research collaboration. The fact is most schools are wired with broadband connectivity, yet have utilized broadband primarily for communications and information gathering. Collaboration is seen as the next phase in utilizing existing broadband technology to share, teach, and expand student reach.
