Network Operations Update From Alpheus Communications
Posted on: Friday, 19 September 2008, 15:00 CDT
Alpheus Communications, L.P., an operator of fiber optic networks and data centers across Texas, announced today that it had no core network outages during Hurricane Ike and its aftermath.
The company followed pre-determined hurricane protocols to roll its Network Operating Center to the company's back up facility in Austin, add extra fuel supply to its Houston back-up generator farms, and otherwise harden the network to ensure continuity in communications networks and full uptime for its Information Technology collocation customers. Kent Major, Alpheus' President said, "I can't give enough credit to our Chief Operating Officer Francisco Maella and his technical staff; they know that the difference between excellent and average network operations is always defined by a crisis environment. The people of Alpheus rose to this challenge, and our customers are very pleased."
Maella added: "Alpheus provides a significant amount of the transport requirements for wireless networks in Houston, so even the retail cell phone user likely benefited from the uninterrupted functionality of our network."
Alpheus' CEO Paul Hobby said, "Alpheus is like the rest of Houston. There aren't any victims here, just good leadership and great spirit. Alpheus is proud to be based in such a resilient city."
Alpheus has resumed normal operations at its Houston headquarters, and is helping restore service to companies without offsite servers who lost email and internet access because of the storm.
