Bangladeshi Police Receives Serial Bombing Threat – TV

Text of report by Bangladeshi Bangla Vision TV on 21 September

The police and law-enforcing agencies have received a threat that their establishments will be bombed if 10 detained members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir are not freed immediately.

A fax message carrying the bomb threat was sent to the Rajshahi city police commissioner's office last evening and was signed by one Mohammad Obayedur Rahman Giyas. Police say they are not yet clear about the motive of the message, but think a strong group is behind this. Security has been beefed up in Rajshahi City after this. However, earlier on 4 September a fax message signed by Mohammad Obayedur Rahman Giyas had been sent to police commissioners' offices across the country, including in Dhaka, Chittagong and Rajshahi, threatening serial grenade attacks. That time the message had been sent in the name of banned militant groups Jagrata Muslim Janata and JMB [Jamiat-ul-Mojahedin Bangladesh].
