Allied Telesis Announces iMG726MOD Gateway for 100M and Gigabit Triple Play

September 22, 2008

Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet access solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple Play networks, today announced the AT-iMG726MOD, a new Gigabit intelligent Media Gateway (iMG). The iMG726MOD continues the highly successful line of modular gateways from Allied Telesis.

Increased bandwidth capacity for HDTV delivery

The iMG726MOD has been designed for the bandwidth needs of Triple Play delivery today and tomorrow. A choice of modular WAN modules can be attached with either 100Mbps active single fiber, GEPON or 1Gbps single fiber bi-directional optical connections.

“Triple Play customers continue to consume more bandwidth. With the advent of 10+ Mbps Internet services, multiple HD multi-channel DVRs throughout the home, it’s possible to consume a 100Mbps connection,” said Bill Allen, Vice President, Service Provider Sales and Operations, Network Service Providers. “Allied Telesis has stepped up and now offers 100Mbps and 1Gbps in the same platform.”

Maintains Allied Telesis’ Evergreen philosophy

Since the new iMG726MOD can support the existing HPNA and 2xT1 LAN modules as well as the 100Mbps active single fiber and GEPON WAN modules from the highly successful iMG6x6MOD family, no previous capital investments are stranded.

“The new 726MOD offers Service Providers a new level of investment protection in CPE. They can install the iMG726MOD with a 100Mbps WAN module, turn up service and when bandwidth demands increase to where more than 100Mbps is necessary. The new 1Gbps WAN module is installed in the existing gateway without any other changes to the electronics or outside plant enclosure,” said Bill Lindsay, Executive Vice President of Engineering. “Additionally they can add optional HPNA or T1 modules, spending capital only when needed.”

Operational savings and fewer truck rolls with the iMG726MOD

The iMG6x6MOD family from Allied Telesis set new standards for operational savings by providing zero-touch configuration and extensive fault isolation functions. The iMG726MOD further increases a service provider’s operational savings by enhanced diagnostics on in-home wiring as well as the gateway itself. The diagnostic capabilities provide the ability to remotely trouble shoot and isolate wiring faults, both on the Ethernet LAN cables and the coax-based HPNA network. By enabling trouble shooting of each section at a time, the iMG726MOD reduces unnecessary truck rolls and service interruptions.

Extensive VoIP support and feature set

The iMG726MOD includes two POTS ports, and takes advantage of the extensive VoIP soft switch inter-op testing performed by the iMG6x6MOD family and provides instant compatibility with multiple soft switches over different protocols, such as MGCP, SIP. The iMG726MOD also continues the expansive feature set from previous Allied Telesis gateways with firewall, NAT, IGMP, routing and many of the layer 2 and 3 features Service Providers enjoy from Allied Telesis intelligent media gateways. A four port iMG746MOD is also planned.

The iMG726MOD will be available in Q4/08. Please contact your local Allied Telesis Service Provider sales person for pricing and delivery times.
