Secure Computing's Secure Web Achieves 99.7 Percent Success in Anti-Malware Detection Study By AV Test Labs
Posted on: Monday, 22 September 2008, 09:00 CDT
Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading enterprise gateway security company, today announced that in an independent test conducted by AV Test Labs (www.av-test.org), Secure Computing's Secure Web Anti-Malware achieved 99.7 percent detection success, leading all of the major anti-malware vendors and scoring higher than 32 other companies. Secure Computing's reputation-based Web gateway solution, Secure Web (formerly known as Webwasher(R)), scored five "A" grades out of a possible six scores giving Secure the best overall average of all anti-malware products that were tested. AV Test Labs' research simulated a real-world combination of malware threats and illustrated the varying degrees of competitive product effectiveness in detecting these threats.
For this test, AV Test Labs only used current samples that were seen spreading (or which were distributed by malware authors) within the last three months. A total of 1,164,662 unique malware samples were used for this test, including worms, backdoors, bots (zombies) and Trojan Horses. The test also included detection of 94,291 unique adware and spyware samples. AV Test Labs' test sets and procedures reflect today's threat landscape, covering the latest malware trends as outlined in Secure Computing's "The State Of Malware - Summer 2008" (http://www.securecomputing.com/pdf/StateOfMalware08.pdf).
Secure Computing's Secure Web is the industry's first and only reputation-based solution that protects enterprises against malware and spyware, phishing fraud and identity theft, data leakage, and Internet misuse. Simultaneously, it helps to ensure policy enforcement, regulatory compliance, and a productive application environment.
"The sophistication of today's security threats for enterprises continues to increase and thus, it is important for companies to protect themselves from attacks designed to steal information and inflict maximum damage," said Andreas Marx, managing director for AV Test Labs. "We see our job at AV Test Labs as a proactive way to offer evaluation for the best anti-malware products so enterprises can make a good decision in their evaluation process."
"AV Test Labs in Germany is well respected among the entire security community. Secure's ability to consistently score high on testing completed each year is testimony of Secure Computing's multi-layered approach," said Tim Roddy, director of Web Gateway Products for Secure Computing. "We know our customers demand real-time protection from all attacks, and as inbound threats increase this fall leading up to the holiday season, Secure Computing will continue to provide the ultimate protection for each of our customers."
About Secure Web
Secure Web delivers a comprehensive security solution for all aspects of Web 2.0 traffic. When a user is requesting content from a Web 2.0 application, he is implicitly asking for active content to be delivered to, and executed by, his computer. Furthermore, the same user is required to provide content to the Web 2.0 application, making the security concerns both inbound and outbound in nature. Secure Computing and TrustedSource enable organizations to say "yes" to Web 2.0 while still protecting users and the enterprise from malicious attack and data leakage.
Secure Web provides immediate protection for user-initiated Web traffic against threats such as malware hidden in blended content or hidden in encrypted SSL traffic. Secure Web analyzes the intent of all content entering the network -- even new Web pages before they are categorized. It also protects organizations from outbound threats such as potential loss of confidential information that can leak out on all key Web protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP).
