PC Mall Gov and T.H.E. Journal Announce Essay Contest for Middle and High School Students
Posted on: Monday, 22 September 2008, 09:00 CDT
PC Mall Gov, Inc., a subsidiary of PC Mall, Inc. (NASDAQ: MALL), today announced an essay contest for middle and high school students across the country. With the start of a new school year, and the environment at the forefront of global discussions, PC Mall Gov has created an opportunity for students to examine how technology is affecting their classrooms and schools, and what this means for the environment overall.
Partnering with HP, InFocus and T.H.E. Journal, PC Mall Gov is seeking entries from middle and high school age students into the "Green Light Contest." Essays of 1,000 words or less describing how students and teachers can use technology to protect the environment will be judged by leaders in the fields of education and technology. A grand prize winner will receive a 30-seat "green" computer lab for their school. In addition, two first place winners (one for each category--middle school and high school) will win a "green" laptop. Winning essays will be published in T.H.E. Journal and winners will be recognized at FETC, January 21-24, in Orlando, FL.
"We are excited and pleased to offer this contest to students across the country," said Alan Bechara, President of PC Mall Gov. "Our partnership with HP and InFocus enables us to encourage students to think about how technology and environmental awareness come together in our schools and classrooms, and how we can responsibly use these tools not only to advance learning but also to protect the environment. There is no better group than our tech-savvy students to think about, and address, these issues."
The Green Light Contest asks students in grades 5-8 and 9-12 to write an essay describing a program for how they and their teachers can use technology to protect the environment. Deadline for applications is December 1, 2008. Winners will be announced at FETC, January 21-24, 2009, and notified by mail no later than January 31, 2009.
