Latest Comcast Traffic Shaping Techniques Similar to That of NetEqualizer
LAFAYETTE, Colo., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- APconnections, a leading supplier of plug-and-play bandwidth shaping products, today responded to the announcement that Comcast would be implementing behavior-based traffic shaping techniques that seem quite similar to those featured in APconnections' NetEqualizer.
According to Comcast, the cable and Internet provider will "deploy a highly-targeted, protocol-agnostic management system that has nothing to do with the applications a customer uses and everything to do with the total bandwidth being used in the last few minutes."The management team at APconnections commends Comcast for adopting the more equitable behavior-based technology for controlling Internet congestion, noting that the announcement ultimately confirms the effectiveness and viability of the NetEqualizer line, which is currently utilized by smaller ISPs worldwide.
For the past five years, through its fairness algorithm, NetEqualizer has ensured that all users are given equal access when network congestion occurs. (Click here for a more detailed explanation of the NetEqualizer philosophy -- http://www.netequalizer.com/)
"Although we did not have any technical collaboration with Comcast on their solution, we certainly are excited to have a large player in this field adopting a strategy similar to ours for quelling Internet congestion," said Art Reisman, CEO of APconnections. "We wish them success and will support them publicly in any way possible. We believe Comcast is setting a precedent in this area on a major scale, raising the tide and benefiting vendors in this field such as ourselves as well as consumers of Internet bandwidth."
The NetEqualizer is a plug-and-play bandwidth control and WAN/Internet optimization appliance that is flexible and scalable. When the network is congested, NetEqualizer's unique "behavior shaping" technology gives priority to latency sensitive applications, such as VoIP and email. It does it all dynamically and automatically, improving on other bandwidth shaping technology out there. It controls network flow for the best WAN optimization.
APconnections is a privately held company founded in 2003 and is based in Lafayette, Colorado.
