Authentium’s SafeCentral Earns “Best of Web” Award

September 24, 2008

Online Banking Report, the exclusive monthly report on internet banking products and markets, last week issued its latest report on “New Techniques for Secure Online Finance,” and awarded Authentium’s SafeCentral its “Best of the Web” recommendation for “the program’s ability to simultaneously protect the user and create a brandable security upgrade.”

The Online Banking Report is an esteemed industry newsletter published monthly since 1995 and read by financial services executives in more than 50 countries. Authentium’s SafeCentral is one of only a handful of security software solutions to earn the “Best of the Web” designation in the 11 years since its inception, highlighting what the report sees as an “important development” for the financial services community.

“The Online Banking Report has long been trusted by the financial community to be an early identifier of the innovations that will have the next major impact for online banking,” said Doug Brunt, President and CEO of Authentium. “Here, they have rightly recognized SafeCentral as the leader in providing safety and peace of mind to consumers while conducting their online transactions. In a time of unprecedented peril on the Internet, we keep information safe and enable online banking to remain not only feasible, but a preferred method of interacting with financial institutions.”

Authentium is currently in discussion with several large financial institutions to offer SafeCentral as a secure online access option to their customers, just as it began to do recently with online trading firm Firstrade.

In announcing the report, Jim Bruene noted that the current challenges in the banking sector may provide the ideal catalyst to focus on better serving and protecting existing customers. “Now might be a great time to … introduce a software solution that provides extra security for online banking. While it won’t make a Fannie Mae shareholder any happier, it’s reassuring in these times that at least there are no crooks stealing your username and password.”

In the report itself, Mr. Bruene cites multiple advantages of the SafeCentral solution, including the ability of the financial institution to improve customer satisfaction and reduce fraud losses. He also reports that the SafeCentral solution gives users a good sense of control and a tangible feeling of protection. Finally, Mr. Bruene notes that SafeCentral enables financial institutions to enhance their brand presence by offering a custom branded icon that can reside on the end user’s desktop, system tray and toolbar and by reminding the user of the financial institution whenever he or she visits an e-commerce site via the branded secure browser.

SafeCentral is designed to act as a ‘secure companion’ to a user’s everyday web browsing, safeguarding from the most sophisticated techniques used by Internet thieves. These threats include viruses, spyware, Trojan horses, keyloggers, phishers, man-in-the-middle attacks, screen scrapers, DNS poisoning, Wi-Fi interception, and countless other orchestrated attacks designed to capture and exploit user credentials and personal data.
