SINGAPORE, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Hewlett-Packard has set up a research and development (R&D) center for integrity server in Singapore, the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, Channel NewsAsia reported on Thursday.

Seeking after low-cost technologies in mechanical and electrical engineering for entry-class servers, the center will develop next- generation Intel Itanium servers.

"It extends the range of our current product line. The center here will do hardware R&D," Paul Chan, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Hewlett-Packard Asia Pacific, was quoted as saying.

Having splashed 12 million US dollars on the center, the world- leading computer manufacturer expects to offer products to the global market by the end of next year.

The company believes that the 13-staff center's output may upgrade customers' productivity and market shares with faster services and new revenue sources created.
