Gateway Locks Down After Felon Spotted
Three schools in the Gateway School District were locked down for nearly an hour Tuesday afternoon as police searched for a Pitcairn man who is wanted on felony drug charges.
The lockdown of Moss Side Elementary, Moss Side Middle and Gateway Senior High, all in the Gateway Campus Boulevard complex, occurred around 1 p.m. when an off-duty Pitcairn officer spotted Gregory Byrd, 18, of Center Avenue near the middle school.
The Kindercare and Tendercare learning centers also were locked down.
The Monroeville police K-9 unit began tracking the suspect in a wooded area over a hill from the Gateway soccer and football fields, but Byrd escaped.
