Fairchild Semiconductor's Buck Converter, Green FPS(TM) Power Switch and Power SPM(TM) Module Are Finalists in Golden Mousetrap Awards

Fairchild Semiconductor's (NYSE: FCS) buck converter, Green FPS(TM) power switch and Power-SPM(TM) module were selected as best product finalists in the 2008 Golden Mousetrap Awards sponsored by Design News magazine. All of these products are instrumental in driving higher levels of energy and space efficiency in electronics.
In the Analog Control category, the FSFR2100, a highly integrated Green FPS(TM) power switch, and the FAN5355, an 800mA/1000mA buck converter, were selected as finalists. The FSFR2100 increases efficiency and reduces design time in resonant converter designs such as telecom power, high-end audio amplifiers, large-size laser printers and LCD and PDP power supplies. The FAN5355 is equipped with an I2C interface, allowing system design engineers to dynamically adjust the digital core's power supply voltage based on the processor workload. It consumes very low quiescent current and delivers ultra-fast transient response for Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) platforms found in today's cell phones, portable media players (PMPs) and other portable applications.
In the Power Management and Control category, the FPP06R001, a Power-SPM module was chosen as a finalist. This highly integrated synchronous rectification module increases power efficiency, system ruggedness and space efficiency in power supply designs.
Design News' Awards program recognizes engineering innovation and creativity in product design. Design News magazine received entries and distributed them to editors for judging.
