Search Engines Gain Users
By Anonymous
Nearly half of internet users utilize search engines in atypical day, according to a new survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. Search engines were used by 49% of respondents daily in May 2008, up 69% from January 2002, when the project first tracked search-engine use. E-mail was the most popular internet application, used daily by 60% of respondents, but its usage grew by only 15% over 2002.
The survey suggests that the proliferation of search engines on individual sites, wider access to high-speed internet connections, and improvements in the search engines themselves are the factors driving search engine growth.
