Alcatel-Lucent has won a five year E45.5m ($67m) contract from US-based electric power providers EPB to provide fiber to the home (FTTH) services in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Under the contract, the company will provide end-to-end network integration and end-to-end application including video head end, network infrastructure, IPTV service platform, and OSS systems. It will also provide architecture design, testing, integration, deployment, operations and maintenance services. EPB expects the initial deployment to be complete by early 2009. The company said its IPTV applications will enable EPB to offer advanced TV and additional communications services to its customers.
The company's services include Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA) including a broadband access network based on its 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber-to-the-User (ISAM FTTU) system, 7750 Service Router (SR), 7450 Ethernet Service Switch, 5620 Service Aware Manager, and 5750 Subscriber Services Controller.
Walt Paskowski, vice president of sales at Alcatel-Lucent's Industry and Public Sector activities in North America, said: "Alcatel-Lucent's municipal broadband solution, in addition to EPB's existing communications expertise, customer service capabilities, established billing system and physical resources, will enable EPB customers to receive the most advanced communications services."
Earlier in July, the company won a deal from Chile-based Gtd Group to deploy the country's first network based on FTTH gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology. It also won a contract from France-based Neuf Cegetel for the deployment of FTTH network in Paris.
