FIM, Sun Microsystems and Greenplum Develop New Data Warehouse
Fox Interactive Media, Sun Microsystems, and Greenplum, a developer of software for business intelligence and data warehousing, have developed and deployed a new data warehouse designed to support monetization efforts for Fox Interactive Media’s portfolio of web properties.
According to Sun Microsystems, the data warehouse solution is built upon the Sun Fire X4500 storage server and the Solaris operating system and provides complex, real-time analysis in support of Fox Interactive Media’s (FIM’s) advanced targeted advertising systems.
The data warehouse solution will combine the scalable Sun Fire X4500 storage server with the Greenplum Database, a parallel database capable of processing petabytes of data on general purpose hardware. The Sun Fire X4500 storage server combines the performance of a four-way Sun Fire x64 server and the highest storage density available at about half the cost of traditional solutions, according to Sun. This solution is also powered by Sun’s Open Storage technologies including the Solaris 10 operating system and Solaris ZFS, an advanced file system, added Sun.
