TechInsights Announces Highly Anticipated Teardown Sessions for Embedded Systems Conference Boston
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ — TechInsights (http://www.techinsights.com/) today announced that the 2008 Embedded Systems Conference Boston (http://www.embedded.com/boston) will feature three unique teardown sessions highlighting three products by computer powerhouse Apple, and one from Estes Industries, the world’s leading manufacturer of model rocket kits, engines and accessories. ESC Boston, which is co-located with SD Best Practices, will take place October 26-30 at the Hynes Convention Center and will feature keynotes from industry luminaries James McLurkin, one of the world’s leading designers of robot “swarms” and Martin Cooper, “father of the mobile phone”, in addition to the ever-popular teardown sessions.
Before Apple dominated the world of portable music with its iPod or revolutionized the mobile phone with the iPhone, it underwent the trials and tribulations of several unsuccessful technologies. Two of those releases included the Apple-Bandai Pippin, Apple’s first and only venture into video game consoles, and the Newton, Apple’s first handheld portable computer. Conference director Richard Nass will break down these devices piece by piece to determine whether the product failures were related to the technology inside, or the marketing that surrounded them.
On day two of the breakdowns, Mr. Nass and John Day, a staff field applications engineer for Microchip Technology Inc., will dissect the Estes Micro-Tiger Helicopter, a device that, through the use of a motion automatic sensing controller (MASC), allows children and engineers alike the opportunity to steer as if they were behind the wheel of the real thing. By breaking down the device to its core, the audience will learn just what makes the Micro-Tiger dip, turn and swerve with only the tilt of a wrist.
Finally, for those eager to peer into an Apple success story, TechInsights will hold a teardown of the Apple iMac, looking inside the famous device that ushered in the impressive return of Steve Jobs and set Apple back on the path to profitability in the late ’90′s. In this breakdown, attendees will learn more about what made the iMac so groundbreaking and how its design and functionality resonated with home computer users.
The official schedule of the ESC Boston 2008 teardown sessions is as follows:
-- Apple-Bandai Pippin and Apple Newton: Tuesday, October 28 at 5:30 p.m. EDT -- Estes Micro-Tiger Helicopter: Wednesday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. EDT -- Apple iMac: Wednesday, October 29 at 2:30 p.m. EDT
Event sponsors include signature sponsor Windows Embedded and platinum sponsor AMD Embedded Solutions.
