School Will Celebrate Apple’s Importance

October 4, 2008

St andrew’s School at Buckland Monachorum near Yelverton celebrates National Apple Day on October 10.

The day starts with an assembly featuring bees and their importance.

At 9.30am, Peter Gorton from the Horn of Plenty comes to judge the Bramley apple pie competition, assisted by Celia Steven, great- grandaughter of Henry Merryweather, who first introduced the Bramley commercially to this country.

Pupils will be pressing apples with Cider With Roadies and learning all about how apples from their own community orchard are turned into fruit juice, as well as about the wildlife living in the orchard.
