6WIND Cements Its Open Network Engine - O.N.E. - Strategy With New Software Release to Accelerate Net-Centric Defense Systems Design

6WIND (www.6wind.com), the pioneer in advanced IP-agnostic networking software, introduced its latest software release, 6WINDGate(TM) version 2.4 following the company's launch last week as The O.N.E. (Open Network Engine) Partner for defense communication systems. The new release cements the Open Network Engine value-add of 6WINDGate(TM)'s software framework to accelerate platform or systems design, empowering seamless interoperable and converging communications for the challenging environment of defense networking.

The 6WINDGate(TM) release 2.4 incorporates an enhanced capability for seamless software integration enabled by the completion of a smart management layer, 6WINDGate(TM) XMS (eXtensible Management System) within its open and flexible software architecture. The 6WINDGate(TM) XMS, based on industry standard XML, provides an efficient solution to assimilate and configure newly-added features using standard management tools (CLI, Web, SNMP or third party management interface) within 6WINDGate(TM) built-in features. This ultimately facilitates different software integration from specific board drivers, kernels, network protocols to applications, for fast differentiation of the end product or system. This integration has been successfully tested with VoIP and security applications (anti-spam, anti-virus, etc.) and with some protocols particularly useful for defense applications. These include: NEMO (NEtwork MObility), ROHC (RObust Header Compression), ad-hoc routing, FMIPv6 (Fast Handover for mobile IPv6).

He added that in a project for the European Space Agency, the Open Network Engine value-add was demonstrated when specific satellite encapsulation protocol, compression mechanism and digital video broadcasting drivers were integrated within 6WINDGate(TM)'s software platform. This led to seamless interoperable digital video broadcasting via satellite over IPv4 or IPv6, a scenario that could easily be envisioned for advanced military SATCOM applications.
