BRISBANE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 2003--CollabNet, the leading provider of collaborative software development solutions, today announced that Sony Corporation has become one of the most recent users of the CollabNet(R) SourceCast(R) environment for the Software Quality Assurance Department of its Platform Technology Center (PTC). The PTC is a corporate organization within Sony Corporation established to support its total business from hardware to content, as well as, all of Sony's Network Companies and Business Groups on a horizontal basis.
The CollabNet SourceCast environment allows companies to establish virtual teams across organizations, locations, and time zones and to easily maintain numerous, simultaneous development projects. The CollabNet SourceCast environment provides exceptional flexibility in organizing projects into groups and categories based on the exact requirements of the project owner. Developers can begin working with the solution immediately, resulting in decreased administrative costs and an increase in productivity. In addition, the extensive role-based permissions model allows project managers to define the specific level of access for each member of a project.
The CollabNet SourceCast environment is fully internationalized and supports multibyte character sets, including Japanese. This allows members to use their local language for collaborating on projects and further facilitates development across distributed geographic locations. Sony will be using both the English and Japanese versions of the CollabNet SourceCast environment to manage different projects within the PTC and allow developers to work in their native language.
"CollabNet has a proven track record of working with some of the largest, most successful companies in the world and we are continuing that trend by working with Sony," said Bill Portelli, president and CEO, CollabNet. "We believe that the benefits of collaborative software development will allow Sony to streamline their software quality assurance process and result in better synergy and more efficient communication across the project teams. We look forward to working with them as they expand their collaborative software development efforts within the Platform Technology Center."
