CyberPatrol Introduces Free Consumer Self-Help Web Site Lookup Service
CyberPatrol LLC today announced the introduction of CyberPatrol SiteCAT Web Site Lookup. The new service, available at www.cyberpatrol.com/lookup.asp, enables any Internet user to immediately lookup and identify the type of web site a child, employee or other user is visiting.
In addition to the ability to identify a site's category, and whether it is "blocked" or "allowed", users of SiteCAT Web Site Lookup are now able to comment on a particular site. This interactive feature gives SiteCAT the capability to continually "learn" in real time. Users are key participants in the continuous improvement of CyberPatrol's ability to protect people online.
"Current users of CyberPatrol software make close to one million lookups per day. In September alone the SiteCAT engine responded to over 33 million lookups from users of our Parental Controls software. We expect the number of lookups to increase dramatically with CyberPatrol's new online consumer self-help lookup service," said Jason Short, Ph.D., vice president of Research at CyberPatrol. "Consumers will be able to test how well CyberPatrol performs at scanning, identifying and categorizing sites, and to decide if this form of online protection is appropriate for their family." CyberPatrol's proprietary database contains information on 22 million domains that represent over 200 million web pages. This data is segregated into 43 different categories. The entire Internet is crawled every 45-60 days.
"Every day the challenges of safely enjoying the Internet become greater," said John Sancin, president and COO of CyberPatrol. "CyberPatrol's new website lookup service gives web users the power to find out which sites are safe and which might be objectionable or dangerous in terms of exposing them and their families to exploits such as phishing, unknowingly downloading malware and the like. Families and businesses now have free access to a powerful service that can help protect and enhance their online experience.
"The new lookup service also gives ordinary consumers a say in how various sites are categorized. If they agree or disagree with either the category or whether a site should be "blocked" or "allowed" by CyberPatrol's Parental Controls 7.7 product, they now have a way to provide that feedback."
