SAN FRANCISCO, June 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nokia , the global leader in mobility, demonstrates its sustained commitment to mobile software developers and the open-standards Java(TM) programming language this week in San Francisco at JavaOne 2005, celebrating its 10th anniversary as the leading conference for developers of Java technology worldwide.
Nokia is making several news announcements during JavaOne, each part of Nokia's push to accelerate a simple and profitable move into next-generation mobile software by the developer community around the Java platform. Among announcements by Nokia at 2005 JavaOne are:
* Java(TM) technology-enabled Series 60 based smartphones will include an enhanced Java Platform configuration, CDC for Series 60, driving significant improvements in the potential of Java software applications to manage mobile devices remotely and creating new business opportunities for Java software developers in the mobile middleware market. * Creation by Nokia's global developer support program, Forum Nokia, of new Forum Nokia PRO Zones -- including Forum Nokia PRO Enterprise Zone and Forum Nokia PRO Networks Zone -- as part of a new technical, business development and marketing support program for software developers seeking to work more closely with Nokia Enterprise Solutions and Nokia Networks. * A joint announcement with Sun Microsystems that Nokia's end-to-end Java gaming solution, known as SNAP Mobile (Scalable Network Application Package), network APIs have been integrated into the Sun Java Wireless Toolkit beta version 2.3, now available to developers. Nokia's Chief Technology Officer Pertti Korhonen will walk Java technology developers through the tangible benefits of the latest advances in Java platform architecture for the mobile space in his General Session keynote speech on Wednesday, June 29, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Korhonen will provide developers with insight into soon-to-be released Java Specification Requests (JSRs) that will lead to improvements in network management of mobile enterprise devices and new developer opportunities in the mobile middleware market, supported by Forum Nokia's offerings of advanced tools and for developers looking to build exciting and profitable mobile Java applications.
During the JavaOne conference, developers will also experience several demonstrations of the Java platform in the mobile space by Nokia's Java technology experts and partners, including:
* The powerful, remote device management capabilities and mobile middleware and applications opportunities enabled by JSR 232 * A mobile enterprise application and middleware demo in conjunction with IBM, showcasing a connected application for field workers who need access to a centralized task list for work order retrieval and order completion confirmation * Nokia's end-to-end SNAP Mobile community-enabled, mobile multiplayer gaming solution, with operator pilot progress reports and SNAP Mobile APIs now included in Sun's wireless toolkit
Developers will also hear Nokia's Java experts who will participate in at least eleven presentations exploring developer issues related to mobile platforms, application development and next-generation technologies.
Developers are encouraged to visit Nokia at booth (#1301) for information on Forum Nokia PRO Zones and information and demos of Preminet Solution, Nokia's end-to-end mobile content distribution and transaction service, and to talk with Nokia's Java technology experts about developing for mobile devices and how to build their own mobile success story. Developers also can pick up Nokia's latest mobile development toolkit, see demonstrations of the next generation of mobile devices, or watch one of many brief presentations on development platforms, developer tools, and how to make money in mobile.
