Agreement to Develop Telecom Network in Two Hundred Villages

A-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported on the signing of a contract signed in early May 2005 to develop a telecom network in two hundred remote villages. The contract was signed between the Oman Telecom Ministry and the Chinese Hawawi Telecom Company
. The paper noted that Oman Telecom and Transportation Minister Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Haradhi, who is also Chairman of the Board of OMANTEL, the national telecom company, signed the agreement together with the Vice President of the Chinese Company. Also participating in the signing ceremony was OMANTEL Assistant Manager for Operations Eng. Muhammad bin 'Ali al-Wahibi. This contract includes development of a telephone network, a rapid Internet network, and voice mail for an investment of OR 3.3 million.Source: Info-Prod Research (Middle East)
