D-Link, a provider of networking solutions, has selected Cavium Networks's Octeon MIPS64 processor family for use in its SMB wireless LAN access point, DAP-2590.
According to Cavium Networks, the Octeon processor family provides scalable processor family with leading performance/dollar and performance/watt, and is being used by several companies for a variety of single and dual band access points for both indoor and outdoor applications. The Octeon single and dual-core processors are being used in a wide mix of SMB equipment including UTM routers, switches and storage equipment.
Thomas Huang, vice president of R&D at D-Link, said: "We could not be more pleased both with the performance of Cavium's products and their excellent technical support. Cavium's chips give us flexibility with respect to our hardware architecture, and have enabled us to add capabilities to our products while meeting aggressive product costs. Cavium's technical assistance allowed us to rapidly prototype and productizes our 802.11n wireless LAN access point on a very tight schedule."
Rajneesh Gaur, director of product marketing at Cavium Networks, said: "Cavium Networks provides integrated single-chip processing solutions for building intelligent and secure wireless networking equipment supporting voice, video, mobility, and data. Our Octeon processors are a great match for D-Link's high performance 802.11n access point products, and we're very pleased to be working with them on several different products."
