Jun. 28--TOKYO -- Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates said Tuesday the U.S. software giant will promote its joint high-tech studies with top Japanese universities. An organization, called the Microsoft Institute for Japanese Academic Research Collaboration, will be set up on Friday to support joint studies between Microsoft researchers and those from Japanese universities such as the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University, Gates said at a press conference in Tokyo.
The organization will seek to develop technologies to make digital home appliances more user-friendly and nurture researchers in the field of information technology.
Gates also said Microsoft will expand research and development investments in Asian countries such as Japan and China.
