Ceterus Networks UTS4000 Series Achieves Metro Ethernet Forum 9, MEF 14, and MEF 18 Certification

Ceterus Networks, a provider of intelligent and flexible backhaul and enterprise transport solutions, today announced that all six of the Universal Transport System(TM) solutions in the UTS4000 series have been certified compliant with Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) requirements.
The UTS4000 series offers purpose-built solutions for the transport of native Ethernet with the same exceptional level of carrier-class reliability and performance delivered by the rest of Ceterus' UTS product family. The UTS4000 series delivers converged Ethernet and T1 pseudowire services over Native Ethernet transport, with flexible configurations supporting client Fast Ethernet, GigE, private management ports, and up to 24 T1s.
The UTS4000 series products were tested by the independent labs at Iometrix in accordance with MEF approved test plans. All 6 products in the family were certified to deliver Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) services compliant with MEF 9 and MEF 14.
MEF 18 is a new level of certification developed by the Metro Ethernet Forum to address TDM circuit emulation (pseudowire) services over Ethernet. The purpose of this certification is two-fold: to ensure interoperable vendor implementations and to ensure that the TDM services still meet stringent ITU and ANSI standards. All four of the UTS4000 series products that support TDM pseudowire services achieved MEF 18 certification.
"MEF 18 was specifically developed to ensure solutions can deal with real world impairments of latency, jitter and wander. In order to be MEF 18 certified, solutions must deliver ANSI and ITU compliant T1s under extreme variations of network utilization and jitter," said Bill Szeto, Ceterus CTO.
Carriers are rapidly deploying Native Ethernet solutions for the growth services which are IP and Ethernet based. Completing the transition to native Ethernet infrastructure requires providing legacy T1 based services, which will continue for years to come. "Providing carrier class T1 emulation services over Ethernet allows us to clear that final hurdle," said Mark McDonald, Ceterus Networks VP Product Management.
The Ceterus UTS4000 product family can interoperate with any standards compliant transport or aggregator, easily integrating into any wireless carrier, LEC, AAV, or IXC Native Ethernet network, including Ethernet over SONET, Ethernet radio, direct on fiber, or OADM systems.
For enterprise Ethernet applications, the Ceterus UTS4200 family has three models: the UTS4200, UTS4208 and UTS4224 with 0, 8 or 24 T1 ports respectively. For cell-site backhaul, the Ceterus UTS4300 family has a Stratum 3 clock for high performance T1 pseudowire and synchronous Ethernet and comes in three models: the UTS4300, UTS4308 and UTS4324 with 0, 8 or 24 T1 ports. Other important applications include infrastructure backhaul for IP DSLAMs, remote DLCs (digital loop carriers) or BLCs (broadband loop carriers).
"The UTS4000 further expands our ability to deliver 'Intelligent Ethernet Today' to carriers and enterprises that need a highly reliable, cost-effective and easy-to-implement Ethernet transport solution. The combination of our new optical Ethernet series with our market leading circuit bonding family gives our customers the right combination of features, performance and payback as they build next generation Ethernet networks," said Dave Stehlin, CEO of Ceterus Networks.
Ensuring that the access network evolves in lock step with the global network architecture, Ceterus' "Intelligent Ethernet Today" philosophy delivers the right amount of capability at the right time for wireless services backhaul and enterprise access while providing the ability to upgrade without equipment change out as the network evolves.
