Technical College System of Georgia Deploys Purewire Web Security Service for Mobile
Posted on: Tuesday, 14 October 2008, 12:00 CDT
Purewire, Inc. today announced that the Technical College System of Georgia has deployed the Purewire(TM) Web Security Service for BlackBerry(R) devices. Purewire is the first security vendor to offer multi-tenant, high-speed Web Security-as-a-Service (SaaS) to protect business users accessing the Web via mobile devices.
Corporate end-users are accessing the Web via mobile phones more and more each day. This is particularly true following the introduction of the BlackBerry(R), iPhone(R) and Google Android/T-Mobile G1(R), which according to Gartner is likely to ship around 600,000 to 700,000 mobile devices during 2008. Further, employees continue to leverage their personal mobile devices for business use, sparking heightened security concerns in the enterprise. In fact, IDC estimates that worldwide mobile security revenue reached $789 million in 2007, and is expected to increase to $2.4 billion by 2012.
The Purewire Web Security Service for mobile meets the demands of securing enterprise end-users on the go and includes key highlights such as:
-- Integrates URL filtering, anti-virus, anti-malware, application control, and policy management - all without installing any software on the mobile device
-- Applies the same Web usage policy on mobile devices as for individual users on desktops and laptops
-- Consolidates reporting across mobile, remote and enterprise users
"Traditional Web security vendors focus mostly on protecting users on desktops and to some degree laptops. However, users on mobile devices are typically left vulnerable. Ideally, an enterprise can enforce a Web security policy that protects users regardless of the type of device they are using to access the Web," said Dr. Paul Judge, co-founder and chief technology officer of Purewire. "Purewire was designed to meet this goal and provide the optimal combination of quality of service and quality of security in multiple, proven deployment options."
The Technical College System of Georgia oversees the state's system of 33 technical colleges, adult literacy programs, and a host of economic and workforce development programs.
"The edge of our network continues to extend beyond the walls of our office, enabling mobile users to access the Web via BlackBerry devices. This requires a flexible Web security and compliance solution that is fast to implement and easy to manage," said Geoff Catron, information security officer with Technical College System of Georgia. "Purewire engineers worked with us to develop a solution that not only met, but exceeded, our expectations--all within our timeline and budget requirements. We wholeheartedly recommend Purewire to keep business users safe as they browse the Web via mobile devices."
