Microsoft to Promote Joint Research With Japanese Universities

Tokyo, June 28 (Jiji Press)--U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday it will set up an institution in Japan to promote its joint research programs with Japanese universities.
Through the Microsoft Institute for Japanese Academic Research Collaboration, the company will pursue joint studies on advanced technologies and applications that meet the needs of the Japanese market.
At a press conference in Tokyo, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said his company's joint research programs will cover not only computer science but also medical science and environmental issues.
Microsoft will also provide research funds and help train Japanese researchers.
Microsoft has already conducted some joint studies with University of Tokyo and Waseda University, and the company will consider joining hands with other Japanese universities.END
