Extreme Networks High Performance Network Helps the State of North Dakota to Help Save Time and Resources With Task Automation
Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR) today announced that the State of North Dakota selected a converged network based upon Extreme Networks award-winning Ethernet networking solutions. The configuration, operations and management of the Local Area Network switch infrastructure and the LAN connected edge devices will be simplified through automation intelligence -- a feature of the ExtremeXOS(R) operating system -- that will reduce the daily burden on its staff.
North Dakota's IT infrastructure serves all K-12 districts, higher-education and state and local government entities and must therefore be optimized for efficiency and scalable operations while serving the needs of diverse end-user communities. North Dakota is in the process of rebuilding its network and communication infrastructure, migrating from TDM technology to a full Ethernet/IP infrastructure, and they were seeking a comprehensive network solution that would deliver the performance, reliability and resiliency required to support all applications and services.
To aid with the management of remote locations, Extreme Networks Universal Port feature allows for the network infrastructure to 'self-administer' configuration changes when devices are connected, moved or disconnected. This is a major stride forward for the state which until now used manual configuration changes to support any adds, moves or changes within the network.
"Extreme Networks provides a solid network and furthermore will help us save money with the administrative aspect of running the network while ensuring that convergence devices are easily supported for users," said Glen Rutherford, chief network architect for the State of North Dakota. "The unique capabilities of the ExtremeXOS software operating system, such as Universal Port, are uniquely progressive and practical. We certainly want to take advantage of this functionality as we expand upon the converged services that we support."
North Dakota selected Extreme Networks BlackDiamond(R) 8800 modular switches and Summit(R) X250, X350 and X450 switches, proving connectivity from 10/100 to 10 Gigabit speeds, for the converged edge. Additional benefits of the network include Extreme Networks' EAPS technology that offers protection to fiber links should they be cut or interrupted, providing sub-50 millisecond services recovery.
