eGuardian and Web Wise Kids Collaborate to Protect Children From Internet Dangers
eGuardian, the only online protection to block predators effectively and make search engines and social networking sites safer for children, today announced a collaboration with Web Wise Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering today's youth to make wise choices online.
"There is no silver bullet to safeguard the Internet, but when for-profits and nonprofits work together to keep kids safer, we can accomplish more together," said Ron Zayas, chief executive officer, eGuardian. "When it comes to Internet safety issues, there is an emphasis on problems but limited focus on solutions. The collaboration between eGuardian and Web Wise Kids is a solution that can help shield children from online threats while educating them and their parents on how to have a safe and rewarding online experience."
"Web Wise Kids and eGuardian represent two approaches to increasing online safety that work very well together," said Judi Westberg Warren, president, Web Wise Kids. "eGuardian's age-verification process combined with Web Wise Kids' interactive education programs offers a powerful approach to creating a safe Internet experience."
For children, the Internet is a great leveler, spanning economic and sociological factors. As a result, cyber predators and bullies are present wherever and whenever a child has access. According to a COX Tween Internet Safety Survey conducted in July 2008, 28 percent of kids between the ages of 8 and 12 have been contacted over the Internet by someone they don't know. Yet, only 30 percent of parents use filtering or monitoring software (McQuade, Samuel III and Rochester Institute of Technology, June 18, 2008).
eGuardian, Web Wise Kids and other organizations are fighting to keep kids safe through a powerful two-pronged approach.
"eGuardian focuses on helping parents to prevent their children from being exposed to adult content and inappropriate interaction; Web Wise Kids focuses on educating children about the dangers of the Internet so that they can make the right decisions," Zayas said. "Together, we can more effectively connect with families, so that parents and children feel empowered and protected."
eGuardian is a child's constant companion on the Internet. Based in Ontario, Calif., the company's proprietary technology provides a revolutionary new solution that blocks contact with online predators and filters out adult content without hindering a child's learning, social networking and exploring opportunities.
