New Professional Networking Site, BanyanLink, Launches for College Students, Employers and Career Centers

Posted on: Wednesday, 15 October 2008, 12:00 CDT

BanyanLink, LLC is proud to announce the launch of a new college-exclusive professional networking website, www.BanyanLink.com, connecting top employers, career-oriented college students and cutting-edge university career centers.

College students are the foundation of the BanyanLink community. On the new site, students with an .edu email address can create personal profiles that go beyond traditional resumes and cover letters and include both professional and personal information. Sophisticated filters allow students to reduce "job spam" and learn about attractive professional opportunities for which they are qualified.

Using BanyanLink's advanced social networking platform, students can connect with one another to trade job hunting tips, collaborate on professional projects and increase their chances of landing their ideal job or internship. For students at Universities that are part of the BanyanLink Career Center Partners Network, the site also enables them to access all the benefits of their college career centers, and access career-oriented information and insights.

"BanyanLink allows students to distinguish themselves amidst a sea of resumes, mitigates the inefficiencies and high costs of recruiting for employers, and enhances the effectiveness of career centers," said Adam Green, a co-founder of BanyanLink. "We use state-of-the-art technology to combine an advanced social networking platform with innovative informational tools, designed to help students progress on their professional aspirations."

BanyanLink benefits employers by giving them access to potentially hundreds of thousands of career-oriented college students and a filtering system that narrows their search for the ideal candidate. Employers will also be able to save time and money with fewer recruiting trips, to forge new relationships with top colleges and career centers, and to promote and market their companies to a key demographic group.

"I'm very excited about using BanyanLink since it's the only college recruiting website that incorporates elements of social networking without invading the students' privacy," said Tatjana Ciric, Sourcing Specialist at Moody's Corp.

Colleges and career centers can use BanyanLink free of charge to reach both students and employers efficiently and effectively. The centers can highlight the resources they offer, promote their recruiting events, and assist employers with recruiting on campus.

"Finally, there is a professional social utility and networking site that combines the functionality of other networking sites, yet allows students to present themselves professionally. We've never had all three - the students, employers and career centers - in one professional setting without the personal aspect getting intertwined, which can send the wrong message," said Trudy Steinfeld, Executive Director of Wasserman Center for Career Development at New York University.

"In a time when students want so many services delivered online, career centers need a vehicle to deliver content and drive people to their websites, but also interact and work with their centers. Career centers weren't out in front with other networking sites and BanyanLink gives career development professionals an opportunity to be a partner right from the beginning and strengthen connections with their students and employers," she added.

The BanyanLink website also includes an in-site lifestyle publication called "Quest", which caters to professionally minded college students. Quest will aggregate content from partner publications, with original content created in-house, and user generated content from the BanyanLink community. Content on Quest will span from video segments, to interviews, to editorial profiles on companies and successful professionals, all keeping within the BanyanLink motto, "Progress is a Lifestyle(TM)".

I received and email from NYU lastweek about this website, banyanlink. Don't waste your time with it, it's uninteresting and useless. I recommend giving linkedin a try instead.
