Utah Technology Council (UTC) Reaches Milestone With Tenth Annual Hall of Fame Celebration

Posted on: Thursday, 16 October 2008, 09:00 CDT

When the doors of the Grand Ballroom open on October 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand American Hotel in Salt Lake City, it marks the 10-year anniversary of the Utah Technology Council's Hall of Fame Celebration. This year's celebration is not only a landmark anniversary but will also feature Yahoo! CEO and Chief Yahoo Jerry Yang as the keynote speaker. Mr. Yang co-created the Yahoo! Internet navigational guide in 1994 and co-founded Yahoo! Inc. in 1995. He will address "The Internet Revolution - Past, Present and Future." This year's Hall of Fame welcomes H. Raymond Bingham and Theodore H. Stanley into the fold of an ever-growing list of global technology leaders with Utah ties.

"What started as a companion event to our annual members' meeting in 1999 has turned into a spectacular black-tie event that draws speakers like Jerry Yang of Yahoo! and over 850 guests," said Richard Nelson, president and CEO of the UTC. "We're excited to welcome Ray Bingham and Ted Stanley into the UTC Hall of Fame and to showcase their accomplishments."

Mr. Bingham's distinguished career of more than 30 years has spanned businesses in high-tech, chemical engineering, and private equity investments with accomplishments in mergers and acquisitions, global trade and venture capital. He currently is a director of three public companies.

Dr. Stanley is recognized as an international expert in intravenous anesthesia, opioid analgesics, drug delivery systems, human and wildlife immobilization techniques and has been a visiting professor all over the world. In addition to his expertise in the medical field, he has also been a "serial entrepreneur" by founding or co-founding eight different life science companies and three research and educational foundations.

These two men join past Hall of Fame inductees that include: Stephen Aldous, Alan Ashton, David Bailey, Bruce Bastian, Nolan Bushnell, Edwin Catmull, James Clark, Bernard Daines, David Evans, Philo Farnsworth, Jim Kajiya, Alan Kay, Spencer Kirk, Drew Major, Raymond Noorda, Dinesh Patel, Shane Robison, Kevin Rollins, James LeVoy Sorenson, David Spafford, Thomas Stockham, Jr., Ivan Sutherland, Homer Warner and John Warnock.

Sponsors of the event include: Omniture, General Atlantic, Novell, Oracle, STMicroelectronics, Zions Bank / Epic Ventures, DataChem Laboratories /Sorenson Media, and KPMG.
