Undertone Networks Names Alan Schanzer Chief Strategy Officer
Undertone Networks, a premium online advertising network, announced today that Alan Schanzer, founder of The Digital Edge, senior executive at MEC Interaction North America, and one of Advertising Age's 2003 Media Mavens, will join Undertone Networks as chief strategy officer. In this new position, Schanzer will oversee the company's media efforts, which include managing and developing publisher programs while working closely with the management team on developing strategic initiatives that help ensure its continued growth and success.
"Alan is one of the most well-respected and experienced digital media executives in the marketplace and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team," said Michael Cassidy, president and chief executive of Undertone Networks. "Alan's role will extend beyond publisher program development as his skills and experience will shape product and corporate development while also guiding our approach to agencies and the clients they serve."
"Undertone is well positioned to further distance itself from the other networks in the marketplace as the company's core focus continues to be on brand driven marketers," said Alan Schanzer. "The connection between publishers, agencies and clients is paramount and our shared vision is to eliminate friction in the selling and buying process, thus creating enhanced value for both publishers and buyers. I look forward to leading this charge at Undertone."
"It is encouraging to see an ad network place such value on publisher relationships," said Kathleen Kayse, executive vice president of digital media sales at Discovery Communications. "Having worked with both Alan and Undertone, I couldn't think of a better combination to help publishers best leverage networks and the revenue stream they provide."
At MEC Interaction, Schanzer was responsible for overseeing all activity related to MEC Interaction and its associated companies in North America, and delivering strategic leadership, vision and insight. Schanzer, along with four associates, formed The Digital Edge in 1999 as an independent business unit of Mediaedge:cia. In 2005, The Digital Edge was joined with Outrider and Wunderman Media to form MEC Interaction. A division of Mediaedge:cia, MEC Interaction provides clients with cost-efficient recruitment and interaction with customers through all direct and emerging digital marketing channels. With the formation of MEC Interaction, Schanzer was named Managing Partner for North America and became a member of the Mediaedge:cia North American Executive Committee. MEC Interaction provides clients such as AT&T, Paramount, Colgate-Palmolive, Xerox, L.L. Bean, The Campbell's Soup Company, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Macy's, among others, with a full range of digital media services through traditional and nontraditional platforms.
A 14-year media veteran, Schanzer was recognized by Advertising Age as a Media Maven in 2003, named one of Online Advertising's 50 Most Influential People by Media Post, and selected as an Interactive Media All Star by Mediaweek. He serves on the board of directors for Visible Technology and has participated on the agency advisory board for numerous organizations, including the Interactive Advertising Bureau and the Online Publishers Association. He is a graduate of Syracuse University and a frequent speaker and contributor at agency and industry events.
