Stonesoft Retains ICSA Certification

Stonesoft, an innovative provider of integrated network security and resilient connectivity solutions for both physical and virtual environments, has retained the ICSA Labs certification for its StoneGate IPS-2000 intrusion prevention system (IPS), remaining one of the select few vendors with this distinction.

After stringent security, management and performance testing, the StoneGate IPS-2000 achieved ICSA Labs' Network IPS Certification. Through in-depth research, industry cooperation and end-user feedback, ICSA Labs' testing methodology was shaped to include testing, targeting vulnerabilities that are pertinent to enterprise end-users, attacks disguised by evasion techniques, denial-of-service attacks, network performance and latency measurements as well as administrative function tests.

"We are very proud that our StoneGate IPS-2000 has successfully attained the highly distinguished ICSA Labs Network IPS certifications as certified solutions that pass testing are limited," said Pentti Lehtinen, Technical Director at Stonesoft Inc. "Stonesoft is one of only three IPS solutions available globally that have met the stringent requirements certified by ICSA Labs."

The ICSA Labs' Network IPS environments are tested simultaneously to provide reliable results depicting how network IPS devices may operate in an actual enterprise environment.

"The vulnerability set referenced by the Network IPS Enterprise Certification Testing Criteria evolves continuously. Twice a year, ICSA Labs performs research on all known remotely-exploitable vulnerabilities, resulting in an updated set of high severity vulnerabilities so that businesses can be assured that they are safeguarded from real-world threats," said George Japak, Managing Director of ICSA Labs.

"While we test the StoneGate IPS against the entire 50 requirements in our Network IPS Enterprise Testing Criteria, maintenance testing is performed between each annual testing event. During these tests, ICSA Labs exercises about 70 percent of the comprehensive testing methodology to provide the necessary assurance for the StoneGate IPS to maintain its ICSA Labs Network IPS certified status," Japak explains.

The StoneGate IPS-2000 remains continuously deployed in the ICSA Labs network IPS testing laboratory, enabling real-time detection to test the device whenever relevant vulnerabilites, attacks and evasions emerge.

The StoneGate IPS solution allows additional IPS throughput by 60 percent and revolutionary serial clustering technology of the new StoneGate appliances. In addition to advanced intrusion detection and prevention functionalities, the StoneGate IPS provides access control features, allowing it to be used as a combined firewall and intrusion prevention appliance for both virtual and physical environments.

The StoneGate IPS is an essential part of the StoneGate solutions suite comprised of the StoneGate Management Center (SMC), StoneGate Firewall/VPN and StoneGate SSL VPN. The StoneGate suite provides the full benefits of a unified management system including shared logging, reporting and auditing. With the flexibility of the StoneGate IPS, it can to be used anywhere in the internal network, even on trunk lines between switches.

The full maintenance test report is available as a PDF file and the vulnerability set that the StoneGate IPS-2000 was tested is available for download.
