Posted on: Tuesday, 21 October 2008, 06:00 CDT

HAVANT, England, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xyratex Ltd. , a leading provider of enterprise-class data storage subsystems and storage process technology, announced today that a just released market study by IDC shows Xyratex was the world's second largest supplier of disk storage systems to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market in 2007 by revenue. In a similar report for 2006, Xyratex held the number three position on the list.

In its recent competitive analysis report, "Worldwide Disk Storage Systems 2007 Vendor Shares: Year in Review," (IDC #213916, October 2008), IDC assessed various segments of the disk storage systems market for 2007 and the two preceding years. In this comprehensive independent review of the worldwide disk storage market, IDC analyzed the market share data of the top 33 disk storage system vendors as well as major storage system OEM suppliers. In IDC's assessment of OEM revenues for selected suppliers, Xyratex ranked second in 2007. According to the report, Xyratex's storage systems OEM business grew 21.5 percent in calendar year 2007, far exceeding the total market growth rate.

"In addition to its many technical innovations, Xyratex continued to demonstrate strong growth in 2007, built on significant design wins including next-generation products from key customers as well as new, large OEM deals," said Natalya Yezhkova, research manager, IDC. "IDC predicts that the worldwide disk storage systems market will reach $34.3 billion in 2012. Given the company's growth trajectory, product roadmap, and the market demand for storage systems, Xyratex is well positioned to continue to increase its market share over the next years."

In 2007, Xyratex demonstrated its leadership position in the market by delivering a broad range of scalable and flexible storage solutions that OEMs can customize for a variety of applications and markets. These customizable solutions included the new OneStor(TM) Extensible Storage Platform (ESP) family which uses interchangeable field-replaceable units (FRUs), Xyratex Intelligent Management software, and Storage Bridge Bay (SBB) 2.0 compatibility to enable server and storage OEMs to reduce both product ramp-up time and inventory costs for spares. Xyratex also offers a portfolio of enterprise-class RAID subsystems, JBOD enclosures, application-enabled storage servers as well as a management console designed for ease of use.

"Xyratex has experienced strong growth in our business and market acceptance of our new products over the past 12 months," said Todd Gresham, executive vice president for Networked Storage Solutions, Xyratex. "We believe the market demand for storage solutions continues to be healthy and that Xyratex is well positioned with our broad portfolio of products and capabilities to continue to meet customer demand."
