PeerMe Empowers Online Communities to Offer Browser-Based Instant Messaging

October 21, 2008

Voice communications technology company PeerMe, Inc. (www.peerme.com) today announced that A Mighty River (www.amightyriver.com), an online professional networking site for African American professionals, has become the first site to launch its browser-based instant messaging (IM) for online communities. Any social network or other online community can quickly integrate PeerMe’s browser based IM software into their sites and allow all of their registered users to IM with each other.

Communities can instantly offer their users a very sticky service which allows users to keep in touch with all of their IM buddies directly from any website. Users on any site which implements PeerMe’s browser-based IM can IM with the people they have “friended” on that site in addition to all of their regular IM buddies on Yahoo!, AOL, and MSN. Users do not have to sign up for any new service or learn any new technology. When they sign-in to a site, they can immediately start an IM conversation.

“Staying in touch with colleagues and peers is critical for executives who spend a lot of time away from their computers,” according to Jim Kirsch, CEO of A Mighty River. “PeerMe has given us the ability to keep members of our online community connected through instant messaging no matter where they happen to be. This is a major advancement for us because it allows us to provide an excellent user experience and create value for people who rely on A Mighty River to network and make the connections they need to advance their careers.”

Tom Lasater, CEO of PeerMe, said, “This product allows any online community in the world to implement a robust IM solution without having to develop any of the software or worry about running the service. It is truly plug-and-play.”
