US-based SureWest Communications has launched its newest technology, Bonded DSL, which is expected to provide subscribers on the company’s copper network with access to faster internet speeds of 10Mbps and 6Mbps.

According to the company, Bonded DSL is an advanced technology that will increase the download speeds for eligible DSL subscribers to 10Mbps from 6Mbps, or to 6Mbps from 3Mbps.

Accomplished by assigning two copper pairs to the customer’s home, this new technology is claimed to allow for higher upload speeds, increasing from 768Kbps to 1Mbps.

Bill DeMuth, senior vice president and chief technology officer at SureWest, said: “Bonded DSL allows us to provide faster Internet speeds deeper into our copper network, and now over 50% of potential DSL subscribers have access to 10Mbps. Demand for higher speeds is swelling and we are pleased to offer this upgrade to our DSL customers.”
